Team Golf Day Raises Record Amount for Foundation

A record amount of money was raised at this yearʼs annual Team Golf Day held at Lʼancresse Golf Course on Friday 6th September. Over £5,700 was raised for the Foundation which will ensure a greater number of opportunities are afforded to young Guernsey people participating in sport who need it most.

19 teams signed up to take part in the competition, testing their skills over the 18 hole course. Less than favourable weather conditions on the day levelled the playing field and challenged even some of the more experienced golfers.

Once again, Doyle Motors generously sponsored for the 8th year running, the following prizes for any player that achieved a Hole in One on the 3rd, 7th, 12th & 18th holes:

– 3rd hole, A set of F7 Graphite Irons
– 7th hole, A three night stay for two at 5* Star Beach Resort in Portugal- 12th hole, A two night stay for four at the Marriott Forest of Arden
– 18th Hole – A Honda Family Vehicle

Unfortunately, although conditions on the day prevented anyone from walking away with one of the big prizes, four prizes were awarded for being nearest to the pin on these holes.

Two teams who have played every year since the competition was launched in 2012 achieved the best scores with the Brushstrokes team taking top honours and the Saffery Champness team a close second. Completing the top three winning places was newcomers’ team Fore Hookers.

Players then came together to celebrate the Foundationʼs achievements over the past 12 months for a celebratory Presentation Dinner that evening where more funds were raised. Auction prizes on the night included 3 Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur pitchside tickets kindly donated by Mick Cahill and a Cleveland RTX4 Wedge generously donated by The Pro Shop at La Grande Mare Golf Club. A painting commissioned by the Lordʼs Taveners, ʻEve of Test Dinnerʼ by Colin Woolf, was also generously donated by Jenny Nicolle.

The Foundation welcomes applications throughout the year, further details can be found here.
