‘Active’ children thank ‘Quids in Sports’ sponsor for 2013

The Guernsey Sports Commission would like to say a big thank you to the Ray Lowe Sporting Foundation who have supported the delivery of our Quids in Sports Programme for the duration of 2013. The financial support we have received from them has enabled us to provide a wide variety of sports & physical activities for children in Primary & Secondary School.

From Judo to Surfing & from Bouldering to Archery we have offered a wide selection of activities to young people for only £1 per session. Over the course of the year 446 children tried one or more of the 14 activities on offer. Sea Sports, Fun & Fit Club & Golf were new additions this year alongside Archery. Oliver Tracey, Marketing Officer at the Commission highlighted that “the support we have received this year from the Ray Lowe Sporting Foundation has been instrumental in increasing the number of opportunities available to young people on Guernsey during the school holidays. The delivery of the programme this year would not have been possible with the financial support from them, and we would like to publicly thank them for their continued support for the duration of 2013”.

The programme is open to children from all schools and social backgrounds, and offers them the chance to try new sports for only £1 in the holidays. Ollie Dowding, PE & Development Officer at the Sports Commission and leader of Multisports during the holidays, highlighted the significance of the programme being offered as he said “the programme provides them with positive environment to develop new skills, meet new friends and to remain physically active in the holidays and with the sessions only costing £1, price is not a barrier to participation”. We have asked our followers through Twitter if any of their children have taken part in Quids in Sports & to Tweet us with their comments.

The Sports Commission took a number of photographs during the year to showcase the variety of activities we have offered during the Quids in Sports programme and they are shown in the slideshow below.
